The incredible LEGO House opened in September in Billundla, Denmark.
It took four years to build this fabulous space, which covers 12,000 square metres and contains 25 million of the legendary toy building bricks. It was built by architects from Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), who put this brilliant idea into practice using 21 white bricks piled on top of each other.
The building is clad in white ceramic tiles, giving the impression that it is made from real LEGO bricks. The ground floor has three restaurants, a LEGO shop, a conference hall and a 2,000-square-metre LEGO plaza.
The area is divided into four coloured zones, each one representing a particular aspect of learning and play. Red is focused on creative skills, blue for cognitive skills, green for social skills and yellow for emotional skills. Each zone features a series of activities that encourage visitors to take part.
Inside the LEGO House is a series of connected open-air terraces and children’s playgrounds.
The brand owner, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, hopes the house—the perfect place to play, dream, create and learn—will receive some 250,000 visitors a year.
‘It’s been a dream of mine for years to create a place to give visitors the ultimate LEGO experience. LEGO House is a celebration of creativity and the strength of learning through play. When children play, they learn necessary basic skills, like creativity, cooperation and problem- solving ’, says Kristiansen, former LEGO president and CEO.
