Architectural mesh for facade

The Kalasatama Electricity Substation power plant serves a growing neighbourhood close to the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The facade of the building, designed by Virkkunen & Co Architects Studio, which won the Vuoden Metallijulkisivu award in 2019 (Finnish metal Facade of the Year), is covered with the Eiffel 40100 architectural mesh in stainless steel.

This solution was chosen because the metal mesh reacts to ambient light, offering a different appearance depending on the position of the sun, the distance from where it is viewed or the effects of the weather. In addition, this grey and neutral facade radically contrasts with the graffiti wall that is on the bottom of the building.
